Two Ways to Start Your Journey
When applying for the Spanish Digital Nomad Visa, you have two options depending on your location and legal status. Here's what I learned during my journey:
Option 1: Apply from Outside Spain (e.g., Your Home Country)
- This is the route I took, starting my application at the Spanish Consulate in Morocco.
- Ideal for applicants who are not yet in Spain or who lack the necessary visa to stay legally.
- Visa Duration: Applications made from outside Spain grant an initial 1-year visa, renewable for longer stays.
Option 2: Apply from Within Spain
- If you’re already in Spain on a valid tourist visa or another legal status, you can apply directly.
- This option saves travel and processing time but requires that you’re in Spain legally.
- Visa Duration: Applications made from within Spain grant an initial 2-year visa, offering more flexibility and stability.
What I Did
In my case, I chose to apply through the Spanish Consulate in Morocco. While the process required detailed documentation and careful preparation, it allowed me to plan my move effectively while staying in my home country.
Important Tips
- Choose the Option That Works for You: If you're not already in Spain, applying from your home country is a straightforward option.
- Duration Matters: Keep in mind the difference in visa durations—1 year for applications outside Spain, and 2 years for those submitted within Spain.
By understanding these options, you can decide the best path for your circumstances and start your application with confidence.
